Six students from the LGBTQ community will recieve £1,000 each to support the cost of their studies at Hull.

The University of Hull has teamed up with the Attitude Magazine Foundation to launch a new LGBTQ scholarship for students.

\r\n

The Attitude Magazine Foundation Scholarships will support six students from the LGBTQ comminity with £1,000 each to support the cost of their studies at Hull.

\r\n

It builds on the University\'s commitment to widening participation at Higher Education level, and follows the recent success of the Jeremy Round Scholarship.

\r\n

Hayley Elahee, LGBTQ student representative at the University of Hull, said: \"Members of the LGBTQ community can face a variety of barriers when accessing Higher Education.

\r\n

\"We are therefore incredibly proud to be partnering with Attitude Magazine Foundation to launch a new scholarship which helps to remove those barriers - providing opportunities for people from all backgrounds to pursue their dreams and careers.

\r\n

At the University of Hull we want students to feel welcomed, proud and rewarded for who they are - this scholarship aligns closely with our values around social mobility and inclusion, as well as creating a fairer system for all.\"

The Attitude Magazine Foundation sholarship is expected to open in April, with the first cohort of of students starting at the University in September.

\r\n

Last year the University of Hull became the first Higher Education institution in the country to offer an LGBTQ scholarship at undergraduate level.

\r\n

First year student Theo Biddle, who is studying British Politics and Legislative Studies, was one of the recipients.

\r\n

He said: LGBTQ students can ofter face many unique challenges getting to university in the first place and the support the scholarship gives can be an enormous helping hand.

\r\n

\"These scholarships are very important to make sure that regardless of the disadvantages people often face in early life because of either our financial situations or just trying to live as our authentic selves, we have a chance to improve society and representation of marginalised communities across all parts of society.\"

Darren Styles, Chairman and Founder of  Attitude Magazine Foundation, said: The Trustees and I are delighted to support the University of Hull LGBTQ Scholarships in 2022.

\r\n
